One Medical’s Policy on Service Animals
One Medical is committed to providing the same level of service and Meaningful Access to individuals with Disabilities, including those individuals who use Service Animals, as it does for all other individuals. Service Animals, defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act as “a dog or miniature horse individually trained to do work or perform tasks directly related to a Disability the individual has,” are permitted in One Medical practices. Anyone with a Service Animal will be accommodated, including individuals who are not patients.
Emotional Support Animals, Therapy Animals, and Comfort or Companion Animals are not Service Animals and are not permitted in One Medical practices.
We require the following in order to appropriately and safely accommodate individuals with Service Animals:
- The Service Animal must be on a leash or have a harness on, unless the use of such equipment would prevent the Service Animal from performing the duties for which it was trained to assist the Disabled individual. The Service Animal must be under the control of the Handler at all times even absent the equipment.
- The Handler must remain in control of the Service Animal at all times, and is fully responsible for the care and supervision of the Service Animal. If, for any reason, the Handler must be separated from the Service Animal to avoid a safety risk, the Handler is responsible for making arrangements for the care and supervision of the Service Animal.
- The Handler must provide the Service Animal with food, water, and any other necessary care, or make arrangements to do so.
- The Handler must clean up after the Service Animal.
Thank you for trusting One Medical with your health.
