This month, we opened our doors to our 58th office – and fourth in Los Angeles – in the vibrant West Hollywood neighborhood. We can’t wait to meet the new patients who will come through our doors here – and we want you to meet one of your new WeHo providers, since our dedication to relationship-driven primary care is so core and unique to One Medical’s model. Get to know Patrick Portiz, MD.

Meet One Medical West Hollywood’s Patrick Portiz, MD

Name: Patrick Portiz

Patrick Portiz

How long have you been with One Medical? A little over a year

How long have you lived in West Hollywood? I lived here for two years before moving to San Francisco for awhile – and now I’m back!

Why do you enjoy working for One Medical? It’s a very friendly environment, and having a highly qualified, well-staffed virtual medical team (VMT) gives me peace of mind when I leave after a day’s work.

Why is One Medical a great fit for West Hollywood? A lot of people in West Hollywood lead very busy lives. At One Medical, our appointments start on time and you have an established relationship with your primary care provider (PCP), so you can save time without compromising care. Additionally, it couldn’t be a better fit to open One Medical in WeHo during Pride Month, when my focus in LGBTQ care and our practice’s ethos of progressive medicine is such a good fit for this community.

What areas of healthcare are you most passionate about? That’s a very tough question — I was trained in family medicine and am very interested in every aspect of the human condition! But one area that I am quite interested in is breaking the barriers that come with sexual health discussion and being able to help patients take care of themselves better free from judgment.

What’s one of your favorite patient stories? I had a patient who dreaded going to the doctor and had not seen one in years. She was thinking about retirement, but she wanted to check on some nagging pain before planning too much. At her visit, I was able to convince her to have a past-due colonoscopy, and it turned out to be a benign mass. It really demonstrated what I love about One Medical: the patient-provider relationship is at the core of everything we do, and the entire One Medical team went above and beyond to help her navigate healthcare needs — and start the retirement process with peace of mind!

What are your favorite neighborhood spots? “Hiking” Runyon Canyon, vintage shopping in Silverlake, running on the beach in Santa Monica.

What do you do for fun in West Hollywood? Sunday brunches are always a must! I also love trying out new restaurants. And, of course, the clubs when I let my hair down from time to time.

How do you stay healthy in West Hollywood? I try to practice what I preach — I aim to squeeze in at least an hour of exercise daily, drink lots of water, and know when to say “no” to those Sunday brunches and clubs.

One Medical’s WeHo office is located at 8570 W Sunset Boulevard near Sunset Plaza, surrounded by other health and wellness-minded companies: Equinox Fitness, SoulCycle, Earthbar, AuraYoga, and more. We – and Patrick especially – look forward to seeing you soon.
