Grace Hochstoeger, FNP | Family Nurse Practitioner | San Rafael in the SF Bay Area
What is your training background as a Family Nurse Practitioner?
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. I then studied at UCSF for three years to get my Registered Nurse certificate and master’s of science as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I chose to become a family nurse practitioner because I wanted to care for families, in particular. I originally wanted to study women’s health, but realized that it would limit me too much. I love taking care of children, their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and so on. It allows me to understand the family dynamics and how that can impact individuals’ health.
What can you do within the scope of pediatric care?
I provide urgent and well care for pediatric patients which means I can diagnose and treat ailments as well as assess the health and development of a growing child or adolescent. I love to perform procedures, so I can do minor urgent care procedures like wound care, urine catheterization, splinting, and casting.
What is your favorite children’s book?
I love Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann. If you look closely, you can find the red balloon on every page of the book. My kids also love it when I read all the different animals’ voices saying “good night.”
