Biography

John expertly balances the rigors of evidence-based medicine with the art of compassionate listening. He has developed a wide breadth of knowledge from his years of experience in primary care and has a particularly keen interest in LGBT health issues. After receiving his bachelor's, master's and medical degrees from the University of Massachusetts, John completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Brown University Residency Program where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He went on to practice at Johns Hopkins University where he was Assistant Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He then spent six years on the medical school faculty at UNC Chapel Hill, based at the South East AHEC in Wilmington, where he also served as the residency Program Director in Internal Medicine and the Vice Chair of Medicine at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. John also holds a master's in public health from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a Medical Officer in the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, where he works on Affordable Care Act projects related to growing the nation's primary care workforce. He is certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
