"One of the things that I love about working at One Medical is our use of technology. Patients schedule appointments online and use our mobile app, and we interact through email all the time, which makes everything extremely easy."
Young people in their 20s and 30s – and anyone in generally good health – likely won't need frequent lab tests. Our board-certified providers will decide whether you need lab work based on your visit, your current health and any medications you're taking. If you're monitoring a specific health condition, your provider may order tests once or twice a year, or even more frequently. If you're interested in having a particular lab test, discuss it with your provider via email or during your next office visit.
Please refer to the local office pages for specific lab hours.
Every insurance plan is different, and the details of your coverage depend on your specific policy. While most lab tests are generally covered by insurance, you may want to contact your carrier before visiting the lab in order to ensure coverage.
No. In order to make sure we don’t waste your time or money, we’d like to meet you first. Your provider then can assess which tests are needed and write you the appropriate lab orders. You can transfer your existing medical records to us electronically - just use the medical record request form in My One.
Fasting is sometimes required before a lab test to get valid results. Your health care provider will tell you how to prepare for your test. If you do need to fast, you can take your prescription medications, but you shouldn’t eat or drink anything except for water for 12 hours before your test. Drinking plenty of water before your test is a good idea since it makes the blood draw easier.
You can expect your lab test results and an explanation of what those results mean in seven to 10 business days. A third-party partner processes all One Medical lab tests and sends the results back to us. A health care provider from our Virtual Medical Team will review your lab report and email you with the results, as well as suggestions on any next steps.
Yes. As with all of the medical tests we perform, we keep STD test results completely confidential. If you’d prefer to have your STD tests performed elsewhere, however, you can go to the City Clinic at 356 7th Street in San Francisco (call 415-487-5500 for more information and hours). If you know you were exposed to HIV or viral Hepatitis, contact your provider immediately to discuss early preventive treatment options.
