Primary Care, Naturopathy, Prenatal Care
Warm, caring and compassionate, Susan seeks to gain a deep understanding of her patients and what affects their health, including diet, exercise, relationships, and work environment. She has a wealth of experience helping women work through health issues that may arise during and after their reproductive years. Susan earned her MD at the University of California in San Diego and completed her residency in family medicine at the University of New Mexico. She is board-certified in Family Medicine, and speaks conversational Spanish.
Charlie approaches primary care with a combination of head, heart and hands — blending strong, evidence-based medical knowledge and clinical exam skills with a careful, listening ear. He enjoys collaborating with patients on treatment plans for all of their health needs, from acute infectious diseases to chronic illnesses. Charlie is adept at performing many office procedures, such as mole removals and skin lesion treatments, and he completed additional training in primary care dermatology in 2014. He also enjoys his position as a clinical faculty instructor in UCSF’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, where he educates resident physicians in San Francisco General Hospital’s Family Medicine Clinic. Charlie earned his MD at UCSF and completed his residency in family medicine through the social medicine residency program at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York City and the family practice residency program at Central Maine Medical Center. Charlie is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, is board-certified in family medicine, and brings over 30 years of experience as a clinician and teacher to his practice at One Medical.
Growing up in central Kansas, Mary Lowen was inspired by the primary care physicians in her small town. She decided to follow in their footsteps and she’s loved the unique challenges of family medicine. Mary believes One Medical is reinventing medicine by blending modern technology with old-fashioned values. In her practice, Mary partners with patients to develops workable solutions to their problems, and she listens attentively to each person’s individual concerns. She enjoys working with patients who are committed to being active participants in their own health, and she enjoys helping them manage stress, weight issues, and other lifestyle concerns. She also particularly enjoys the fields of women’s health, adolescent medicine, chronic illnesses, preventative medicine, and psychological illnesses including eating disorders. To stay healthy, Mary loves hiking, biking, yoga, and training at the gym. In her spare time, she knits, makes jewelry, reads mystery novels, and works out with her family. She volunteers with Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, and also sings in the choir. Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Kansas, and her MD from the University of Kansas Medical School. She became chief resident during her three-year residency in family medicine at the University of California, Irvine. Mary is certified through the American Board of Family Medicine.
Arnold Lee is not available to Brown and Toland patients
Arnold is an incisive internist who approaches clinical problems with persistence and determination while maintaining a relaxed and forthright style. Adept at everything from office-based surgical procedures to management of complex health problems, he is especially interested in sports injuries, exercise medicine and disease prevention. Above all, Arnold values long-term, collaborative relationships with his patients. He earned his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his residency in internal medicine at Columbia University, and was among the first physicians to join One Medical Group.

With an approachable personality and a keen ear for listening, Heather strives to help patients feel heard, prevent illness and disease, and improve their health outcomes. She collaborates with her patients and utilizes preventive, evidence-based, and integrative medicine options to create a plan of care that best meets their needs. Heather has a strong interest in treating obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension and is passionate about cardiovascular medicine, adolescent medicine, LGBT health, and transgender medicine. She received her master's of science in nursing at UCSF and is board-certified in Family Medicine.
Scott, a California native, is an attentive and compassionate provider who takes a collaborative approach to help patients meet their health goals. He focuses on each patient as an individual and guides them to make positive health choices through active listening and education. To stay healthy, he enjoys running, yoga, and weight lifting, and is an avid cyclist. He graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Sarah is an approachable and knowledgeable practitioner with wide-ranging clinical skills and interests. She has a highly collaborative approach to primary care, engaging and unifying the efforts of her patients, her colleagues and outside specialists. A graduate of Occidental College, Sarah completed her PA training in Oakland and practiced throughout the Bay Area prior to joining our practice. She is certified with the NCCPA.
Angela is an experienced provider with a highly collaborative approach to primary care and a strong interest in women's health. She listens carefully, providing support and guidance so that her patients can be well-informed partners in the medical decision-making process. Educated at Rutgers University, Angela worked at Planned Parenthood for many years prior to joining One Medical Group. She is certified with the NCCPA.
Drawing on her conventional and naturopathic training, Erica practices truly integrative medicine, incorporating nutritional supplementation, prescription medication and botanical medicine into her practice. After completing her undergraduate studies at Oberlin College, Erica went on to earn her ND (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine) from Bastyr University in Seattle and completed a post-doctoral Family Nurse Practitioner program through Seattle University. She has experience with a wide spectrum of patient care needs and is certified through the AANP.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, Christine approaches patient care with empathy and a listening ear. She makes mental health care accessible to One Medical's patients, bringing a strong understanding of both the mental and physical aspects of health issues, including IBS, chronic pain, weight management, disordered eating, insomnia, anxiety, stress, and depression. She has a broad base of experience in clinical psychology and research, having taught in various academic settings and published articles in several academic journals. After earning her master's in sociology from Stanford, Christine coordinated clinical research studies at the Stanford School of Medicine. She went on to complete an additional master's in clinical psychology and received her PhD in clinical psychology from Loyola University Chicago. She completed residency and fellowship at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center and the San Francisco VA Medical Center/UCSF Center for Excellence in Primary Care. Christine is a board-certified psychologist.
Nutrition and Lifestyle
Karyn is dedicated to enhancing people's lives through nutrition. She firmly believes that whenever we consume anything, it affects not just how we feel immediately afterwards but also our future health. As a Certified Nutrition Consultant, she listens compassionately and helps patients design diet and lifestyle plans that are customized to their goals. And, as a Certified Natural Chef, she advises patients on bringing their plans to fruition in the kitchen. She is a graduate of Bauman College and The British College of Nutrition and Health, and a One Medical provider since 2008. Karyn is a member of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, and the Institute of Functional Medicine.
Born in Thailand and raised in Michigan, Thai found a home in San Francisco because he was drawn to the city’s cultural richness and diversity. He celebrates and welcomes that diversity in the clinical setting, offering a safe space for patients of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. He believes One Medical Group offers the right environment in which he can practice evidence-based medicine while nurturing other areas of interest so that he can grow and become a better physician. Thai enjoys collaborating with patients and allowing them to direct their own care by setting health goals. He has a keen interest in chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis B. Thai graduated from the Family Medicine Residency program at the University of Minnesota, where he also served as Chief Resident, and he attended the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. Outside of the office, you can find him on a long hike, swinging a tennis racquet, or gearing up for a new travel adventure – he’s lived in Wales and New Zealand, and visited over 20 countries. Thai also works as a volunteer physician at the Asian Pacific Islander Wellness center and works with low income and homeless patients at the Tom Waddell Health Center.
Equal parts instructive and compassionate, Carolyn helps guide her patients toward health improvement and disease prevention through clear communication and positive encouragement. For everything from urgent needs to travel medicine, she is adept at utilizing virtual services to help increase collaboration with her patients and reduce costs for them. Carolyn earned her master's in physician assistant studies at Chatham College. Afterwards, she spent several years caring for a wide variety of patients in emergency medicine and developed a strong proficiency in outpatient procedures. She is certified through the NCCPA.
Nurse practitioner Julie Holmes joined One Medical Group for its unique emphasis on employee wellness and patient-centered care. Julie prefers a collaborative approach, building a rapport with patients and working together to create a clear plan of action. Preventative care is high on her list of priorities, and one of her main goals is to empower patients to optimize their health by making manageable improvements in their diet, exercise, and thought patterns. Originally hailing from Maine, Julie attended school in Massachusetts before relocating to the Bay Area. She is certified in Adult Medicine through the ANCC.
Approachable and compassionate, Terese bases her practice in collaborative, evidence-based medicine. She works with her patients to establish practical treatment plans, incorporating up-to-date medical resources and an understanding of the patient's needs. In addition to her commitment to primary care, she has strong interests in oncology, hematology, and infectious disease treatment. She received her master’s degree in nursing from UCSF and also holds a master’s from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Terese is board-certified in Family Medicine.
Primary and urgent care appeal to Dena because they allow her to have a broad scope of practice while building relationships with her patients. She was drawn to working at One Medical Group because of the innovative style, quality-improvement processes, and high patient and provider satisfaction. Dena is particularly interested in dermatology, family planning, and sports injuries, and she makes it a point to close each visit by making sure all of her patient’s questions and concerns have been addressed. In addition to cycling, running, hiking, traveling, tennis, and terrarium-building, Dena is a member of the volunteer group, “My Own Two Hands – Bay Area,” and has donated her time to organizations like GLIDE, SF Food Bank, SF Botanical Gardens, and Project Homeless Connect. Born in Eugene, Oregon and raised in San Diego, California, Dena originally relocated to San Francisco after her undergraduate studies to work at a non-profit in adolescent health and to explore a new city. Before returning to graduate school, Dena volunteered for two and a half years in rural Paraguay with the Peace Corps, during which time she recognized her desire to become a health care provider. Upon her return, Dena went on to earn a Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health as well as a Masters in Nursing as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at UCSF.
Compassionate and collaborative, Rebecca is skilled in making patients feel heard and providing them with effective care grounded in evidence-based medicine. She is adept at caring for a range of health issues, particularly Women’s health and urgent care needs. Rebecca earned her master’s in the family nurse practitioner specialty from UCSF.
