"To be able to help educate someone and also to have that person feel like there's somebody within the system that has their back is what I strive for. If I can do that then it's what makes me happy, and that makes it all worthwhile."

Nili Azhar, MD

People flock from all over the world for a shot at life in New York City, but along with endless possibility and nonstop energy comes unparalleled stress. New York consistently ranks among the nation's most stressed out cities, and whether you work uptown, downtown, or are commuting to and from the boroughs, city life can feel like a rat race. These stressors and more can leave you in need of a skilled support system. Whether you're concerned about depression, experiencing anxiety, suffering from insomnia, or coping with a chronic diagnosis, we can help manage your treatment and incorporate it into the bigger picture of your primary care.

One Medical's New York offices offer comprehensive mental health services. All of our primary care providers have the skills and experience necessary to assess, diagnose, and manage a variety of mental health conditions related to stress, anxiety, depression, and more.

Our New York members also have access to a variety of other treatment options, including Shift: A Stress Management Experience, a meditation-based stress and anxiety management workshop series led by providers and health coaches with expertise in mind-body medicine. Participants learn highly practical tools and skills to use in everyday life over the course of several group sessions. Our mental health services also include a one-on-one virtual anxiety management program taught by a health coach with over four decades of experience. The program consists of four to six sessions lasting 50 minutes each, and participants learn a diverse set of skills to prevent and manage anxiety, nervousness, panic, and worry.

Why would I see a primary care provider for mental health services?

Primary care providers are trained to see the "big picture", and both acknowledge and understand the complex connection between the body and brain. One Medical’s team of providers are specially trained to deliver excellent, holistic care, including a range of mental health services.

What kinds of mental health services do you provide?

All of our board-certified primary care providers are equipped to diagnose and treat a variety of issues related to anxiety and depression. This can include helping you manage your stress levels, address sleep concerns or insomnia, and create a sustainable work/life balance. Our providers also have comprehensive experience treating phobias like flight and social anxiety, and can help you overcome your fears to live a fuller, happier life.

Even if you’ve never experienced anxiety or depression but are dealing with a life crisis or specific stressor, our providers can help get you through a rough patch with knowledgeable support, empathetic care, and a variety of coping skills and strategies.

If you’re dealing with a mental health issue that is complex or requires additional care, our team will make sure you get to the right place. We have relationships with world-class psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health treatment providers throughout the region, and we’ll ensure you receive proper, timely treatment suitable for your needs.

Do you prescribe medications?

Every one of our primary care providers is qualified to prescribe medication when appropriate and manage dosing as needed. However, we view each patient as an individual, and we don’t believe in applying a one-size-fits-all treatment to every person. In some cases, medication may be an important part of therapy, while in other cases, alternative modalities may be more beneficial. For some people, a combination of medication and other treatments like cognitive therapy, nutrition counseling, or mindfulness coaching, can be most effective. We’ll work with you to create a custom treatment plan that you feel comfortable with.

Are your providers therapists?

The majority of our physicians are board-certified primary care providers who are adept at addressing all health concerns, including those related to psychological and physical well-being. While all of these providers can handle a spectrum of basic concerns, our New York City staff also includes mental health specialists board-certified in clinical psychology, therapy, and psychiatry.

Which New York City providers specialize in mental health services?

Our board-certified providers are trained to handle everything from preventive medicine to treatment of acute and chronic conditions. New York City team members who have a specific interest in mental health include:
